Cookie Policy
Last updated: 22 July 2026
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device to make the site work and to remember choices you have made.
The short version
This website uses only strictly-necessary cookies: the small number of cookies needed to make the site load correctly and to remember your response to our cookie notice. We do not use any analytics, advertising, tracking or marketing cookies, and we do not build a profile of you. On a normal visit, before you interact with the cookie notice, the site sets no cookies at all.
If we ever decide to add non-essential cookies (for example, website analytics), we will ask for your consent first through the cookie banner, and none of those cookies will be set unless you agree.
What we mean by “strictly-necessary”
Strictly-necessary cookies are ones the site cannot sensibly run without. They keep pages loading quickly and correctly, support secure sign-in for site administrators and record whether you have responded to the cookie notice.
Under the UK’s cookie rules, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly-necessary cookies are exempt from the requirement to obtain your prior consent, because you would not be able to use the site properly without them. We still list them here so you can see exactly what is set.
The cookies we currently use
Cookie names and durations can change when the underlying software is updated, so please treat the specific names and lifetimes below as indicative. Note that the WordPress and page-cache cookies are mainly set for signed-in administrators; an ordinary visitor browsing the site is not given them.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
wordpress_*, wp-settings-*, wordpress_test_cookie |
WordPress (the software the site is built on) | Checks that your browser accepts cookies and remembers basic display preferences. In practice these are mainly set for site administrators signing in rather than ordinary visitors. | Strictly necessary | Session, or up to 1 year for display preferences |
_lscache_vary |
LiteSpeed page cache | Helps the site serve the correct cached version of each page so pages load quickly and correctly. Set mainly for signed-in users. | Strictly necessary | Session |
cmplz_* (for example cmplz_consented_services, cmplz_policy_id, cmplz_banner-status) |
Complianz (our consent tool) | Records that you have seen and responded to the cookie notice, so you are not shown it again on every visit. | Strictly necessary | Up to 365 days |
We do not currently use any analytics, performance-measurement, advertising, social-media or other marketing cookies.
If we add non-essential cookies in future
We may one day wish to use analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. If we do:
- we will update this policy;
- the cookie banner will ask for your consent before any such cookie is set; and
- you will be free to decline, and the site will still work.
We will not set analytics or marketing cookies on the strength of this policy alone. Your agreement will always be requested first.
How to control cookies
You have two straightforward ways to manage cookies on this site.
1. The cookie banner. When non-essential cookies are in use, you can use the banner (and its settings) to give or refuse consent, and to change your mind later. As things stand, only strictly-necessary cookies are used, so there is nothing you need to accept.
2. Your browser settings. You can block or delete cookies through your browser at any time. The relevant settings are usually found under “Privacy” or “Cookies”. Please note that blocking strictly-necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working properly. Guidance for the main browsers is available in each browser’s own help pages (for example, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge).
You can also find independent, plain-English guidance on cookies and how to manage them from the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
